Fall Food Drives Generate Tons of Food for Local Families

Throughout the months of September, October, and November, local community groups have worked to fill the ACCA food pantry with tons of food for local families. As we head into the holiday season, we are grateful to many local groups for collecting the food and bringing to ACCA.

September began with Stuff the Bus at the Annandale Giant and featured our local firefighters as special volunteers.

Our friends at the NARFE Annandale chapter 1159 continued their tradition of monthly food drives in September, October, and November, and they collected 3,530 pounds of food and $1718. Giant Foods, Annandale, and Fairfax County Mason District Police also helped with their collections.

The Annandale Rotary held a food drive at the Annandale Safeway in early November. Thanks to the Rotary for their continued support of ACCA, often providing fresh fruit for our clients.

Local voters also pitched in at the Mason District Government Center where our donation box filled to overflow several times during the early voting period in October.

We estimate that 15,000 lbs. of food arrived at ACCA on November 8 from local scout troops during their annual Scouting for Food program. Thank you to all of our neighbors who put their groceries out for the scouts to pick up.

On November 10, we were thankful to receive another generous donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as their truck brought us 334 cases of food, amounting to more than 7 tons.

Thanks to everyone involved, the ACCA Food Pantry is ready to take on the challenge of feeding our neighbors through the winter!
